What happens when we take aim at a target?  Are we able to tune out thoughts, sounds, and our external environment to place the full breath of our attention in a moment? Most would say 'no'. Yet whether you are focusing upon a goal, vision, or an action, mindfulness is key to success. 

What does it mean to be mindful? To be fully aware and attentive, applying your absolute power to a single moment in time. Not so easy in this day and age. And yet, it doesn't have to be all that difficult. 

My son helps me to remember the importance of mindfulness. At 12 months old (this past Saturday) he is a master! Just last week he gave me a great lesson in mindfulness. I bathe with him almost every evening as part of our nighty ritual. One night last week, I took him out of the tub and got distracted as I was exiting as well. In a matter of moments, I heard something being poured onto the bathroom floor. Yup, you guessed it - he had peed all over the ground! I had taken my attention off of him to do something else and he reminded me that every moment truly does matter. 

Mindfulness is this exact realization. That we miss gems of opportunity, beauty, and in this case relief when our attention wanders elsewhere. How many times have we got distracted when our loved ones ask for compassion? How often have we missed cues from someone close to us for love and understanding? What chance instances have passed us by because we weren't paying attention? You can make every moment matter. Practice mindfulness at every opportunity and see how your world shifts!
